Bluenose II is a replica of the original Bluenose, a famous Canadian fishing and racing schooner. Here are some key details about Bluenose II:

Construction and Launch: Bluenose II was built by Smith and Rhuland in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, and launched on July 24, 1963. It was commissioned by Sidney Culverwell Oland as a promotional yacht for Oland Brewery.

Design and Specifications: The schooner is 46 meters (150 feet 11 inches) long overall, with a beam of 8 meters (26 feet 3 inches) and a draft of 5 meters (16 feet 5 inches)1. It has a sail area of 1,036 square meters (11,150 square feet) and is equipped with two auxiliary 250 hp CAT diesel engines.

Role and Mission: Bluenose II serves as a sailing ambassador for Nova Scotia, promoting tourism and representing the province at various events1. It does not officially race, in honor of its predecessor’s record.

Ownership and Stewardship: The schooner was donated to the Province of Nova Scotia in 1971 and is operated by the Lunenburg Marine Museum Society. It underwent a significant rebuild in 2009 to ensure its continued operation
