USS KNOX FF-1052’S HISTORY

USS Knox FF-1052 is the first Knox-class destroyer escort of the United States Navy. The ship was named after Commodore Dudley Wright Knox, and was the second ship of the United States Navy to bear the name Knox. USS Knox (FF-1052) was laid down in October 1965 at the Shipyard Todd Seattle and launched in April 1969. She was officially commissioned into the United States Navy on April 11, 1970.

USS Knox FF-1052 is 415 feet (126 m) long, 47 feet (14 m) wide, has a draft of 24 feet 3 inches (7.39 m), and has a tonnage of 3,020 tons. The ship is equipped with a variety of advanced weapons, including 5-inch gunboats, Harpoon anti-ship missiles, close-range anti-aircraft guns and modern sonar systems. On August 7, 2007, USS Knox FF-1052 was sunk as a training target off the coast of Virginia.

The USS Knox FF-1052 is one of the United States Navy’s most successful frigate classes, contributing significantly to national security during the Cold War and other conflicts. It is a symbol of the courage and dedication of the sailors who served on the ship, contributing to writing the history of the United States Navy.
