HISTORY
The SS United States is a true icon of American maritime history, a vessel that embodied both luxury and speed. Launched in 1952, this ocean liner was designed to be the epitome of mid-20th-century elegance and technological innovation.
Operated by the United States Lines, the SS United States was not only a symbol of national pride but also a powerhouse on the seas. One of its most remarkable features was its speed. In fact, it still holds the record for the fastest transatlantic crossing by a passenger ship, a record set on its maiden voyage in 1952.
The ship’s sleek and modern design, both inside and out, reflected the best of American craftsmanship and style. It was a favorite among celebrities, dignitaries, and travelers seeking a luxurious and swift passage across the Atlantic.
With the advent of air travel and changing economic realities, the demand for ocean liners declined, leading to the retirement of many such vessels. The SS United States was no exception, and it was taken out of service in 1969.
