SLAVE SHIP’S HISTORY

SLAVE SHIP were large cargo ships specially built or converted from the 17th to the 19th century for transporting slaves. Such ships were also known as “Guineamen” because the trade involved human trafficking to and from the Guinea coast in West Africa.These ships were specifically designed to transport enslaved individuals from Africa to the colonies.

SLAVE SHIPS were typically large and had the capacity to carry hundreds of enslaved people in horrifying conditions. Africans captured from their homelands were chained and confined in cramped spaces below deck, enduring inhumane treatment and extreme suffering during the long and treacherous voyage across the Atlantic Ocean.

Today, the legacy of SLAVE SHIPS serves as a painful reminder of the atrocities committed during the transatlantic slave trade. Efforts to commemorate the victims and educate about this dark chapter in history continue, with the aim of promoting understanding, empathy, and the importance of human rights.
