HISTORY OF SHABAB OMAN (1977)

SHABAB OMAN is a sailing ship of the Oman Navy. It is a large sailing ship used for training purposes and to participate in international events. Shabab Oman was built by Herd and McKenzie of Buckie, Scotland as a top-shelf sailing vessel in 1971. Built for the Dulverton Trust, she is operated by the Loch Eil Trust on programs incorporating rowing training boats with shore expeditions.

Construction and early years: SHABAB OMAN was ordered and built at a shipyard in Japan. It was completed in 1999 and then moved to Oman. From 1999 to 2005, this ship participated in many sailing cruises and trained young sailors.
Participation in sail racing: During this period, SHABAB OMAN participated in many international sail races, enhancing the reputation of the Oman Navy in the international sailing community.
Participate in the circumnavigation of the world: One of the highlights of SHABAB OMAN was the circumnavigation of the world from 2010 to 2011. During this journey, the ship participated in the program “The Sultanate of Oman’s Circumnavigation,” went on a journey that lasted many months and visited many ports around the world.
Journey to participate in events and training: After circumnavigating the world, SHABAB OMAN continued to participate in many international sailing events and training programs for young sailors. It is often used as a tool to create training and skills development opportunities for the younger generation in Oman.
