HISTORY

The POLTAVA was a famous Russian battleship that played a significant role in the Russo-Japanese War. Commissioned in 1898, it was one of the first battleships of the Russian Navy’s Baltic Fleet. The POLTAVA participated in the Battle of Tsushima in 1905, a decisive naval battle where it fought against the Japanese fleet.

During the battle, the POLTAVA demonstrated its firepower and resilience but ultimately suffered heavy damage. It was captured by the Japanese and later incorporated into the Imperial Japanese Navy as the IJN Tango. The ship served the Japanese navy until it was decommissioned in 1923.

The POLTAVA’s participation in the Russo-Japanese War marked a significant turning point in naval warfare history, highlighting the importance of modern battleships and the rise of Japan as a naval power.
