PATROL TORPEDO BOAT PT-109’S HISTORY

The warship Patrol Torpedo 109 (PT-109) is one of the most famous warships in American history because it is directly related to the military career of President John F. Kennedy before he became President.

PT-109 is a Motor Torpedo Boat (MTB) class ship manufactured by the United States Navy and used during World War II. This ship was launched in 1942. During its career, PT-109 participated in many naval missions in the Pacific region.

In August 1943, PT-109 became famous when it was rammed by a Japanese warship and sank in the Solomon Islands. Captain John F. Kennedy and his crew faced many difficulties to find a way to survive. After that, Kennedy used a pile of grass on a small island to write a distress message to the American rescue soldiers.

Thanks to the courage and creativity of Kennedy and his crew, they were saved after being stranded on the island for many days. This event has become one of the famous heroic stories in American military history, especially after Kennedy became President of the United States.
