KUNGSHOLM’S HISTORY
MV Kungsholm was built in 1966 by the John Brown & Company shipyard in Clydebank, Scotland as a combined cruise/ocean liner for Swiss American Line. It was later rebuilt into a full-time cruise ship under the names MV Sea Princess, MV Victoria, MV Oceanic II, and MV Mona Lisa.
Named Kungsholm, the ship first entered service with Swiss America Line in 1966 as a transatlantic ocean liner, the last to be built for the Gothenburg–New York City route. In 1978 she was acquired by P&O and sent by Bremer Vulkan to Vegesack for rebuilding. Her appearance was significantly changed by the removal of the (false) forward funnel, the reshaping of the remaining funnel, and the addition of additional cabins.
In September 2010, she was decommissioned for not meeting SOLAS 2010 requirements, becoming the floating hotel Veronica, before being scrapped in 2016.
