HISTORY

The Luxury Motor “Janna Helena” was built in 1928 on behalf of J. Smits in Rotterdam at the shipyard of Gebr. She was motorized with an 80 HP Hollandia glow head and could transport 150 tons of cargo.

In the 1920s, wooden cargo sailing ships in the Netherlands were quickly replaced by steel and motorized ships. Sail shapes were no longer sufficient and a new ship shape was developed, the stern of which was adapted to the latest insights.

In the stern, a sometimes beautifully paneled deck was built in, which even created a certain degree of comfort that the skippers were not used to. Together with the chain steering with the steering wheel, this all improved working conditions to such an extent that the type of ship quickly earned the name “Luxury Motor”.
