HISTORY OF HMS VANGUARD

HMS Vanguard was the last battleship built for the Royal Navy, commissioned after World War II. Its construction was expedited due to concerns about potential enemy superiority, leading to modifications in design and delays. Despite completion after the war, HMS Vanguard played significant roles, including transporting King George VI and his family on a Royal Tour and serving as flagship for various fleets and squadrons. HMS Vanguard engaged in training exercises with NATO forces during the early 1950s and participated in Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation Review in 1953.
