HISTORY OF HMS RODNEY
HMS RODNEY was a battleship of the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom. She was one of the two ships of the Nelson class, named after Admiral Lord Rodney, who was a prominent naval officer during the late 18th century. HMS RODNEY was built during the 1920s and commissioned in 1927.
During World War II, HMS RODNEY played a significant role in several naval engagements, most notably in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. One of her most famous actions was her involvement in the sinking of the German battleship Bismarck in May 1941. Along with her sister ship, HMS KING GEORGE V, they relentlessly engaged Bismarck until she eventually sank, avenging the sinking of HMS HOOD by the same German battleship.
After the war, HMS RODNEY was placed in reserve and eventually scrapped in 1948. Despite her relatively short service life, she made a lasting impact on naval history through her participation in key battles during World War II.
