GOKE’S HISTORY

GOKE is an ancient type of boat used historically in Japanese waters. This type of boat originated from the Jomon period (10,000 – 300 BC), when Japanese people began to hunt and collect seafood.

GOKE boats are built from a single block of wood, usually wood from pine trees. Designed to move at sea and used for fishing and seafood collection purposes. With a simple design and sturdy structure, GOKE boats can withstand harsh sea conditions and ensure safety for the operator.

During the historical development of Japan, GOKE boats have undergone many changes in size and style. However, the basic principles of GOKE boats remain the same. The unique feature of the GOKE boat is the use of long tree branches attached to the front of the boat, called “gokegashira”. Gokegashira has the role of balancing and helping the boat move stably on the water.
