ENDEAVOUR HALF- HULL

Endeavor, a 130-foot J-class sloop, was commissioned by Sir T.O.M. Sopwith and was built by Camper & Nicholson at Gosport England to challenge for the America’s Cup in 1934. Having prepared for her campaign in Shamrock V, Sopwith was keen to ensure that the yacht was of cutting-edge design. possible. With her experience designing aircraft, Sopwith applied aeronautical technology to Endeavor’s rigging and winches and spared no expense to make it the best ship of her day. Since its launch in 1934, ENDEAVOUR continued its preparations by competing with Shamrock V (then owned by Sir Richard Fairey) and the newly launched Velsheda (owned by W.L Stephenson). ENDEAVOUR overtook the British racing fleet and entered the hearts of yachts around the world, winning many races in her first season. Like many before ENDEAVOUR, Endeavor failed to win the Cup but ENDEAVOUR came closer to doing so than any other challenger.
