EDWARD SEWALL’S HISTORY

Edward Sewall is the name of a famous classic American wooden sailing ship.

The Edward Sewall was originally built in 1883 at a shipyard in Bath, Maine, USA. Ships are built of pine wood and were created for the purpose of transporting goods across oceans. Originally named “Harry L.Sewall” and used to transport goods and timber across oceans, performing duties in the commercial industry.

In 1922, the ship Harry L.Sewall was renamed Edward Sewall to commemorate Edward Sewall, son of Harry Lee Sewall, after Edward’s death. Edward Sewall was famous for his work in the wooden sailing ship industry and became an icon of Maine’s wooden shipping industry.

After his career as a freighter ended, the Edward Sewall was preserved and used as a sailing cruise ship.
