CISNE BRANCO’S HISTORY
- Origin and structure: Cisne Branco, which means “White Swan” in Portuguese, was built in the Netherlands. She was built by Damen Shipyards and launched on 4 August 1999. The ship was commissioned by the Brazilian Navy as a training ship for cadets and naval officers.
- Characteristics: The Cisne Branco was a well-rigged ship, a type of sailing ship with three or more masts, each carrying square sails.
- Role and activities: Cisne Branco’s primary role is to train cadets and naval officers. It participates in various naval events, international tall ship races and cultural exchanges, representing Brazil globally. The ship serves as a goodwill ambassador, promoting Brazilian culture and strengthening international relations through maritime diplomacy.
- Heritage: The ship continues to serve as a valuable training platform for future generations of Brazilian naval officers, providing hands-on experience in traditional sailing techniques and modern naval practices.
