BLUEBIRD K7 HYDROPLANE’S HISTORY

Bluebird K7 is a famous hydroplane used by Donald Campbell (British) to break water speed records.

Bluebird K7 was designed by British train designer Ken Norris and built in 1954-1955. Made of aluminum and a jet engine, the Bluebird K7 is lightweight and reaches high speeds on the water.

Donald Campbell used the Bluebird K7 to set many records. The most famous record is when the world record speed was achieved on July 17, 1964 at Coniston Water Lake (UK) with a speed of 526.29 km/h (328.63 mph). However, after achieving this record, the Bluebird K7 had a serious accident on Coniston Water Lake and Donald Campbell died in that accident.

After many efforts, in 2001, Bluebird K7 began the restoration process to return to service. The Bluebird K7 has become a symbol of courage, determination and records in the history of jet boat racing on water.
