History and Construction: The yacht was built between 1931 and 1932 at the Naval Dockyard in Copenhagen. It was named by Queen Alexandrine and first hoisted its flag on May 26, 1932.
Design: The yacht features a riveted steel hull with a clipper bow and an elliptical stern. It is divided into two main sections: the forward section for crew accommodations, cargo, and the engine, and the aft section for the royal apartments.
Royal Apartments: The royal section includes the King’s study, a dining salon, a lounge, and bedrooms. The furnishings include items from the previous royal vessel from 1879.
Functions: Besides serving as the official and private residence for the Royal Family during summer cruises and official visits, the yacht also participates in surveillance and sea rescue operations.
Crew: The yacht’s crew consists of 9 officers, 7 sergeants, 2 able seamen, and 36-39 conscripts, all specially selected from the Navy. The conscripts handle various tasks, including helmsman and lookout duties, guard service, and maintenance.
Service: Since its commissioning, the Dannebrog has traveled over 400,000 nautical miles and visited numerous ports in Denmark, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, and other European locations
