LE PONANT’S HISTORY

Le Ponant was built in 1991 at the shipyard of the famous shipbuilder DCAN (Chantiers de l’Atlantique), now Chantiers de l’Atlantique, in Saint-Nazaire, France. The ship is designed as a luxury sailing ship with three masts, where visitors can experience an exciting form of travel. The ship is fully equipped with premium amenities, such as comfortable bedrooms, restaurants, and many entertainment activities.

Initially, the ship was designed to serve the purpose of luxury travel and exploring famous destinations around the world, especially the Mediterranean and Caribbean seas.

In 2008, the ship was attacked by Somali pirates, its crew were captured but later rescued by French military forces. This incident marked a prominent event in the ship’s history.

Le Ponant continues to operate in the luxury tourism sector, often organizing cruises to attractive destinations around the world. The ship is owned by Ponant Shipping Company, a famous French travel company.

Le Ponant represents a combination of history and modern amenities, providing guests with a unique cruise experience in a luxurious space.
