LE BELEM’S HISTORY

Le Belem is a historic French tall ship.

Construction: Le Belem is a three-masted barque constructed in Nantes, France, and was launched in 1896. Initially built as a cargo ship to transport goods between France and the West Indies, it had a distinctive design featuring a wooden hull and three masts rigged with square sails.
Training Ship: After years of service, the ship was retired from commercial use in the 20th century due to advancements in maritime technology. However, it was later restored and converted into a training vessel.

Today, Le Belem operates as a sail training ship and a symbol of France’s maritime heritage. It participates in maritime events, cruises, and serves as a floating museum, allowing visitors to experience the rich history of sailing vessels.
