HISTORY OF USS ARIZONA

USS Arizona was a Pennsylvania-class battleship built for the United States Navy in the mid-1910s. Named in honor of the 48th state of the United States which had just joined the Union, the ship was the second was also the last of the Pennsylvania super-dreadnought class of battleships. Although commissioned in 1916, she remained in the continental United States throughout World War I; and shortly after the conflict ended, she was one of the escort ships taking President Woodrow Wilson to the Paris Peace Conference. Arizona was sent to Türkiye when the Greco-Turkish War broke out to protect American interests for many months. Years later, she was transferred to the Pacific Fleet and remained there for the rest of her service life.

Arizona was awarded a Battle Star for her service in World War II.
