HISTORY OF HMS KING GEORGE V

HMS King George V (41) was the lead ship of the King George V class of 1939 battleships. She was the second ship of the Royal Navy to be named in honor of King George V of England. She participated in the sinking of the German battleship Bismarck and many other operations in Europe and the Pacific during World War II before being decommissioned in 1949 and scrapped in 1957.

King George V began escorting convoys in February 1941. The new warship also participated in the unsuccessful pursuit of the German warships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau during the German Navy’s Operation Berlin. onion. She returned to her role as flagship of the Home Fleet in 1946. However, just three years later, King George V was decommissioned, placed in the Reserve Fleet, and finally broken up at Dalmuir in year 1957.
