HISTORY

Sunflower Sapporo is a ferry belonging to the Japanese MOL Ferry company. Built between March and September 1998 at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries shipyard in Shimonoseki for the Higashi Nihon Ferry company, she was initially named Varuna. Entering service in October 1998 on routes connecting Honshū to Hokkaidō by the Sea of Japan, it was eventually moved to Pacific routes in 2000. Acquired by MOL Ferry in 2002, it shared with the Higashi Nihon Ferry until withdrawn from this pier. one in 2005. Integrated into the MOL Ferries fleet, it was sometimes renamed Sunflower Sapporo and remained in service between Kantō and Hokkaidō until 2017, when it was replaced by the new Sunflower Sapporo. Sold to Korean owner Seaworld Express Ferry, she currently sails as Queen Mary (Korean: 퀸메리, Kwinmeli) on routes between mainland Korea and Jeju Island.
