The USS South Carolina (BB-26) is one of the battleships belonging to the South Carolina class of the United States Navy. USS South Carolina was named on December 18, 1906, and was launched on July 11, 1908, at Newport News, Virginia. It was officially commissioned on March 1, 1910. As the United States entered the arms race with the leading powers of Europe in the early 20th century, USS South Carolina was utilized as part of the Navy’s modernization plan.
