HISTORY OF HMAS PERTH D38 DESTROYER

HMAS Perth (D 38) is the lead ship of a class of guided missile destroyers operated by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). The ship was built in the United States to a modified version of the Charles F. Adams design, Perth entered service with the RAN in 1965.

The destroyer saw action three times in the Vietnam War, earning RAN battle honors and two U.S. Navy citations for her service. Much of the ship’s operational life was spent on training exercises and goodwill visits to other countries, including one deployment to the Mediterranean. Perth was decommissioned in 1999 and sunk as a wreck off the coast of Western Australia in 2001.
